Abstract :
This work focuses on the use of ISO 9000 standards for the introduction of Quality Management in information services, based on a comprehensive review of the literature. Library and information sector need for guidelines, self-appraisal tools, and real-world experiences. The ISO 9000 standards enable designers, manufacturers, service providers, vendors, and customers to work with the same set of quality standards, regardless of where they are located. The ISO 9000 standards are quality management systems and go beyond technical specification. Adhering to the standards will help in indentify the gaps and loopholes and out of date practices, in the library and information centers. It can provide a framework of managing processes and operations also. This is the only where ISO 9000 certification seems mandatory is contractual, where the users demands conformance to a specific quality assurance standard.
