Abstract :
Dr. Ranganathan recommended ideals of modern libraries so as to know the user interests and to provide documents (information services) to all the users. These ideals are still not adopted in majority of the academic libraries. Due to ICT applications, majority of the library professionals and thinkers are much interested to develop digital libraries in academic environment. It is essential on the part of the digital libraries to possess and continuously upgrade ICT applications along with providing access to e-documents. To use the services of digital libraries, the users must be computer literates and must be experts to get access of e-documents from internet. In reality, the statistics revealed that only 6.15% of the Indian population is computer literate and more than 21.92% of the population is living extremely below poverty line. As such, all the users can’t able to access and use the e-resources that are accessible through computer, intranet and internet. Digital libraries are successful, if they are providing continuous access to its resources.
