Abstract :
This paper presents the existing situation of LIS curricula, LIS curriculum reforms, role of Curriculum Development Committees (CDC) and some valuable recommendations to design and development of model curricula in Indian LIS Schools. To promote quality education a model and custom built LIS curricula was required to be designed to match present market demands in digital culture. A new model should be suggested for the emerging digital culture. At several library schools the LIS course is a two years integrated course after graduation and divided into four semesters. The two years integrated course was also proposed thirteen years back by the UGC, but with the innovation, advancement of technology and its use in library, the course contents of LIS curricula became outdated. Some private Colleges have lack of infrastructure, budget and insufficient manpower but they are also conducting BLIS and MLIS courses. There are also the dearth of infrastructure and staff to train librarians for emerging new information environment.
