Information Science (LIS) education in India is now a century old. During the time it was refined and encapsulated by recommendations of many committees which were set up by UGC from time to time for the revision of curriculum and course
contents of Library and Information Science education. Library and Information Science (LIS), as other fields require consistent reforms and modifications in its
curriculum structure to make library professionals self reliant to fulfill the requirement of current situation. This paper analyses the current trends of curriculum and course content revision in Library and Information Science Education in India. Presently LIS schools are offering courses from a certificate level to doctorate level. These courses have included the applications of
Information and Communication Technology. This study also traces the effect of Internet technology on the different courses of study in the discipline of Library and Information Science at present. |
