In the emerging knowledge society people need to acquire skills for efficiently using information
resources for day-to-day and other vital activities. Information literacy enables individuals to recognise
when information is needed and have the capacity to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed
information. It is considered as an indispensible component of information empowerment process.
Information literacy forms the basis for lifelong learning and information literate persons are competent
independent learners. For an effective functioning of the democratic world, the citizens have to be
information literate and able to take right decisions for the development of the society. |
